Opinionated Blog- Texting in Class

I don't understand why professors have a rule on texting in class. Sometimes, it's of importance. ALSO- it should be my prerogative if I pay attention or not. I feel like everyone should be responsible for their own actions. If a student chooses to text during class, it's money out of their own pockets that is lost. Professors get paid whether students pay attention or not. Obviously, texting isn't too distracting for me.. my GPA can attest for that. Blah Blah, END :)

  1. I agree with you for the most part. It shouldn't really matter too much to the professor if a student is texting. It is not distracting anyone but the student him/herself. But also, it may just be a matter of respect. Just like if someone is talking to you they would want your full, undivided attention. If not, you may come off as being rude although it is unintentional.

  2. I disagree. What professors today don't really understand is that just because I'm texting doesn't mean I am not paying attention. Texting does not distract me from class at all. It takes literally seconds to receive and send a text and even while I'm doing it I can still pay attention.

  3. I understand the whole respect issue, and it's a good point. It really depends on what kind of person the professor is. Some really could careless about you or what you are doing, but at the same time some really do care about their students and want them to get the full concept of what is going on. Also some take it as a a business or a prep for a career. You wouldn't text during a job interview, so why text during a lecture that could eventually help you later in your search for a good job.

  4. I agree and disagree. I think students should not be punished for texting in class ONLY if it doesn't prevent others from learning or paying attention.
